Rye Bay is an area deserving more attention; shingle bars, saltmarsh, high cliffs and reed beds all support a wide range of wildlife. The human landscape is of no less interest, with the Cinque Port ‘Antient’ towns of Rye and Winchelsea, flint gatherers and fishermen in Rye Harbour and artists such as Derek Jarman, John Piper, Edward Burra, Jacob Epstein and Paul Nash. This talk looks at the diverse landscapes both human and physical that make up the Bay surrounds.
