The Chalk Pit Furlong is Brighton’s ‘Lost Neighbourhood’; now almost unknown but located in the central city less than half a mile from the West Pier. This talk looks at its location and history from the 17th century until late in the 20th century. All now forgotten…but is it..?
Geoffrey Mead was born and raised in Brighton, educated at Brighton & Hove Grammar and University of Sussex where he took a geography degree. He worked in adult education for Sussex from 1984 – 2010 and did a PhD in Brighton’s interwar suburban growth at Patcham. From 1997-2002 Geoffrey was a West Pier tour guide, ‘One of the best jobs I have ever had!’
