A talk by Jackie Marsh-Hobbs on the story of how fashionable society took to our beaches to embrace the health-giving properties of the sea. Known as the Seawater Cure, part of which was to be dipped into the cold sea. This practice continued to grow in popularity, leading to seawater bath houses being built along or near our seafront. Seawater was also pumped into hotels, houses and swimming pools where it could be hot, cold or tepid. We will take an affectionate look back at our sea bathing heritage. Ticket includes complimentary glass of wine or soft drink.
